Over 1 Million Passengers; Chicago’s Top 15 Hugely Popular Destinations

Let’s fly a year back—yes, in 2024, Chicago O’Hare and Chicago Midway welcome almost 101.5 million passengers. It’s within the record—the US Department of Transportation has mentioned it. Apart from it, the data shows that approximately 85.1 million travelled on domestic routes.

This figure sounds amazing as it includes traffic by Abelo. That’s similar to when two airports are merged within 15 markets that had one million or more round-trip passengers, as reported by locals.  Apart from the summary, the figures above show a whopping 22.7 million round-trip flyers, equivalent to approximately 62,000 daily. This combines the total traffic volume flowing to and from in a significant proportion.

The O’Hare International Airport comes within the list of the world’s busiest airports for regional jet flights. According to local travel market records, Chicago-New York LaGuardia is another popular airport, with nearly 2.63 million local passengers and a daily average of 7,200 flyers.

The Local Chicago To New York LaGuardia Market Examined

Regarding the carriers, the five included in regional units are American, Delta, Spirit, and United, which operate out of O’Hare, while Southwest operates out of Midway. Accountability is ensured through short distances and a vast number of non-stop flights, which account for 99 percent. This is massive, followed by US DOT—United carried 913,000 local passengers (35%), followed by American (531,000; 20%), Delta (469,000; 18%), Southwest (468,000; 18%), and Spirit (244,000; 8%).

The Local Market Had 80% of Chicago-LaGuardia Traffic.

The US DOT shares 3.28 million flyers recorded between Chicago and LaGuardia in 2024. This is significantly larger than the local market for the 80th percentile. This means that a substantial number of people—approximately 660,000—connected to another flight, nearly all of whom were at O’Hare. Surprisingly, Spirit has the joint-highest proportion for local travelers at 95%, followed by Delta, ironically on some classified hubs.
